WHAT IS AN EMPLOYEE MATCHING GIFTS PROGRAM?

Many companies and corporations offer this program as a benefit to their employees and retirees who wish to donate to a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization. Your employer pledges to match your contribution to qualifying organizations.

HOW MUCH OF MY DONATION WILL MY COMPANY MATCH?

Rules and regulations vary from company to company, but generally, your employer will match your donation 1:1 up to $1,000 or more a year. If you donate $100, your employer will give another $100. Some companies may also match in-kind gifts, or gifts of products and equipment (like computers).

HOW DO I PARTICIPATE IN MY EMPLOYEE MATCHING GIFTS PROGRAM?

First, you will need to inquire at your company whether this program is offered. If it is, the process must start with you. The process varies among companies, but generally speaking, there are three steps - you take the first two, and the final step is ours. (1) Make a donation to Asian Women's Shelter. (2) Obtain an Employee Matching Gifts Program form from your employer, fill out the section indicated, and mail it to us (3543 18th St. #19, San Francisco, CA 94110). (3) We will take it from there - once we have verified that your donation has been made, we will fill out the second portion of the form and return it to your employer, who will then disburse the matching funds to us.

We think so! It's a win-win situation: Not only are you taking advantage of this great opportunity to increase your contribution to Asian Women's Shelter, but your employer is happy because you are happy, and we are thrilled, as always, to have the support of individuals like you!

In-Kind Donations

In-kind donations are all non-monetary gifts, including donations of food, clothing, supplies, services, etc.

** Due to limited space at the shelter, we can only accept donations that will be put to use right away. Please call us to find out our immediate needs.**

COMMUNITY THRIFT

When we don't have space, we are grateful to Community Thrift for accepting gently used clothes, furniture or household goods at their store and making a contribution to AWS. Please drop your items off at Community Thrift and let them know that you would like the donation to benefit AWS, code #172. They are located at 623 Valencia Street, San Francisco, CA 94110, (415) 861-4910. Community Thrift is a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency and your donation is tax-deductible.

Please note that there are some items that Community Thrift does not accept such as children's clothing and toys. See their list of acceptable and non-acceptable donations.

WISHLIST

Please start by viewing our Wishlist below. Contact donate-in-kind@sfaws.org to reconfirm, as our needs and storage may have changed. Please do not drop off items directly at our mailing address.

If you would like a receipt for your donation, please let us know. We will be happy to provide you with one, which will mention all relevant information that you will need for your tax deductions, such as description & quantities of your in-kind items and acknowledgement of receipt by AWS. Please note we do not include the value of the donation in the receipt.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT DONATION DRIVES:

If you'd like to organize a donation drive for AWS with the intention to raise our wishlist items, we will be so grateful! But please check in with us beforehand, so we can share details on the quantitities we're hopeful to receive. We cannot guarantee we can receive items from your drive unless we have checked in beforehand. We'll help you organize the drive in the best possible way; we'll give specific and necessary details of items, quantities, process and more. Unfortunately, we do not have unlimited storage space, so we may not be able to accomodate more items than we can manage to store.

We requested these items for clients, residents and children in needs:

• Resturant food donations for different support groups
• Different kinds of packaged snacks
• Art Kits (e.g. rock painting, sun catcher, etc.)
• Coloring books
• Play doh kits
• Infant/toddler toys
• Gift cards for clients (e.g. Grocery Outlet, Target, Safeway, Trader Joe’s)
• Used non contract mobile phones (either iPhone or Android based) in good condition
• Used personal laptop/tablet/ipad in good condition
• New or lightly used headphones
• New earphones

General Household:

• Liquid hand soap (refills)
• Dish detergent (refills)
• Full sized body wash (preferably Dove sensitive skin)
• Paper towels
• Toilet paper
• Facial tissue
• Bathroom cleansers (liquid towel bowl cleaner, disinfectant, etc)
• Swiffer wet wipes (wood & regular floors) – refills
• Swiffer dry wipes - refills
• Non alcoholic mouthwash (children and adult)
• 30 gallon trash bags
• 15 gallon of trash bags
• 15 gallon compostable kitchen bags

** Personal Care for baby and children **

• New or lightly used Dekor Plus Diaper Pail
• Dekor Plus diaper pail refills
• Size 5 Diapers
• Baby wipes
• Children's umbrella
• Children's raincoats
• Children's rain boots
• Warm clothes for young adults
• Underwear (new in various sizes for young)

We also need these additional items throughout the year, but it is a good idea to check with us by contacting us at donate-in-kind@sfaws.org.

• Brita water pitchers
• Kitchen knives and tools
• Kitchen cooking pans and cookware (stainless, non stick and carbon)
• Cooking utensils (Spatulas, Tongs)
• Electric kettles (New/Lightly used)
• Toasters (New/Lightly used)
• Blenders (New/Lightly used)
• Small rice cookers (New/Lightly used)
• Large rice cooker (New/Lightly used)
• Wall clocks, desk alarm clocks, small peakers (New)
• Laundry bags (portable/easy fold)

Host a Fundraiser

Donate through a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) or Foundation:

If you would like to support Asian Women's Shelter through your donor-advised fund (DAF) or foundation, please contact your DAF provider or foundation and recommend a grant to Asian Women's Shelter.
