We seek volunteers who can:

• Be flexible and resourceful
• Work with women and children in crisis situations
• Work both independently and on a team
• Commit to issues concerning domestic violence, women, and the Asian community
• Take initiative
• Expand their knowledge of community resources and Asian communitiy

In order to become a volunteer, you must:

• Fill out a volunteer application
• Be interviewed by AWS
• Read and sign a volunteer contract. Volunteers need to consider their commitment a serious one, since they are an integral and essential part of AWS.
• Make a minimum commitment of one year and a commitment to work at the shelter 3 – 5  hours a week.
• Attend a mandatory 64- hour training.
• Maintain the confidentiality of the shelter location and the residents of the shelter.
• Sign a confidentiality contract.
  

We strongly encourage all women of color, as well as lesbians, bisexual, and transgender women, to apply to become volunteers.
