When a woman is Asian and immigrant, or refugee, she faces many hard questions if she seeks a women’s shelter after having exhausted all of her endurance against domestic violence.There are many barriers to overcome just to get to the shelter.Yet many battered Asian women courageously take an action to escape from violent homes once they learn that there is a women's shelter where Asian women are welcome — the Asian Women's Shelter.

The Asian Women’s Shelter (AWS) was founded in 1988 to address the needs of women and children survivors of domestic violence, especially those who are immigrants and refugees.
